Cais do Sodré

Holiday homes in Cais do Sodré, Lisbon

Time Out Market, the Cacilhas ferry, and the easiest neighbourhood on this list for anyone travelling with luggage: both our homes here have a lift and a garage.

What it's actually like to stay here

Cais do Sodré metro station sits on the Green line, with Time Out Market right at the station entrance. From here it's a flat 5 to 7 minutes to Praça do Comércio, on paved streets rather than the hills and calçada of Alfama or Chiado. The neighbourhood also doubles as a transport hub: the Cascais-line train reaches Belém in about 10 minutes and Cascais itself in 35 to 40, and a ferry crosses to Cacilhas in roughly 10 minutes. Few neighbourhoods in the city put a metro line, a mainline train and a ferry within the same five-minute walk.

To the airport, it's one change on the metro, about 30 minutes door to door, the same as from Chiado. A taxi is faster and simpler with luggage.

What's within walking distance

Time Out Market sits right at the station. Ribeira das Naus, the riverside walk, runs from here toward Praça do Comércio, flat the whole way. The Cacilhas ferry crosses to the Almada side for the Cristo Rei statue and a cluster of fish restaurants, about 10 minutes each way. The Bica funicular, one of the city's three, climbs from nearby up to Bairro Alto if you'd rather not walk the hill.

Who it suits, and who it doesn't

Good for anyone who wants to be near the water, day trips to Belém or Cascais without needing a car, and easy access to the nightlife rather than a long taxi ride home from it. It also suits groups with mixed mobility better than Alfama or Mouraria, since neither home involves stairs from the street. Both our homes here, Ferragial and Corpo Santo, have a lift and a garage, which makes this the easiest of the four neighbourhoods for arriving with cases.

Less good if you want an early night on weekends: Pink Street is loud Thursday through Saturday until around 4am. A block back from it, where these homes sit, is calm, but the walk home from dinner may pass through the noise.

The two homes here

Ferragial is a three-bedroom home for up to 6, with air conditioning, a lift and garage parking.

Corpo Santo is also three bedrooms for up to 6, with air conditioning, a lift and free garage parking. Both are step-free from the street to the door.

What to expect on arrival

Check-in is after 15:00 and check-out before 11:00, with self check-in available at most homes. Entry is by pin pad, with a unique code generated for your stay. Every home carries a smoke alarm, a carbon monoxide alarm, a fire extinguisher, a kitchen fire blanket and a first aid kit, as standard across all our properties.

The only thing you'll pay locally is the municipal tourist tax, €4 per guest per night in Lisbon, capped at seven consecutive nights; guests under 13 are exempt. Everything else is settled in your booking. Ferragial and Corpo Santo are close in size and both suit a group of 6 well; with a lift and a garage at each, they're also the pair we'd point an older or less mobile group toward, or anyone travelling with a lot of luggage who'd rather not think about stairs at all.
